First and foremost, this is a MATURE site. Now, not every post is going to be about drugs or sex, we are just telling you that it is allowed, and if you have issues with it, or are too young for it, we advise you don't join.
There will be topics of: Drugs, Fights, Sex, Alcohol, Cussing, ect.
By applying for membership on Nightingale you are agreeing to follow the Rules and Guidelines listed below, understand that any prejudice against race, religion, thoughts, opinions, etc. will not be tolerated, will treat every member with respect and maturity, will be safe on the internet and never give out personal information, be active and thoughtful in literate roleplay, and will accept any and all consequences for breaking these rules. Understand that rules are subject to change.
Throughout the Site
RESPECT This rules goes for all visiting or joining. We are a friendly and respectful site, and we expect you to act in the same way. There will be no bullying or harassment; we have no tolerance for it, and any bullying will result in an automatic suspension. If you have an issue with another member, PM them outlining the problem in a respectful and adult manner. If the problem continues, contact staff and the issue will be dealt with.
LANGUAGE Serious and extreme curse words are not to be said out of character, IC maybe so. Damn and hell are allowed in-character, because they are not usually found horribly offensive. No excessive use. Swear words are allowed in the role-play, as they can help shape characters' personalities and histories.
STAFF RULES The staff's word is law. Ultimately, the staff of the site decide what goes and what doesn't. Consulate a staff member if you are worried about breaking a rule, or you feel a rule is unfair. Also feel welcome to contact us (privately or publicly) about any issues you are having with our site, or any ideas you might have about improving our roleplay.
IC VS. OOC Just because someone's character dislikes your character, it does not mean they dislike you as a person; it is all just roleplay. Please do not get upset if a conflict arises between your characters. If you feel the characters should be friends instead (or the argument should have turned another way), just talk to the member about it. Roleplay is about communication.
FACECLAIM If your character has just been accepted, Send a staff member a note with the name, gender and celebrity used to portray.
Character Specifics
NAMING & REALISM While we want you to be creative in your character naming, you also must think in the mind of an human, and in the mind of the human. Babies are named when they are born, and personality cannot be determined within that length of time. You must also follow the laws of physics, gravity, and genetics. Humans do not have green skin, bright wings, control lightning, or see into the future or have special powers.
BE FAIR While everyone wants to be the popular kid, or the head cheerleader; you can't. Everyone can't be popular, or the bullies of the school because who would they pick on or look down on? Also, not every guy can be an athlete all-star, it just doesn't happen like that. Check the restrictions to see if you can create on of these 'types' of characters.
FAMILY No one grew up alone, or without a family. So NPC your parents, or siblings. The only exception to this is if your child is an orphan, but that's extremely rare. If your parents died in RP, then you live with a foster parent or a family member.
Roleplaying & Posting
BASICS While there is graphic content allowed, please don't bring it to an extent where it disturbs even the most foul minded. If you feel the need to do this, posting through PM is perfectly fine. With this said, this site is rated Mature. There can be sex, drugs, alcohol, cursing. It's highschool, isn't it?
LITERACY We are a semi-literate to literate roleplay, and therefore expect you to write with literacy. Use correct spelling and grammar, and read over your work before making a post. There will be no tolerance for chatspeak in roleplay. Some writers like to leave every word lowercase, for effect; this is acceptable. Word count is 150 words minimum. However, every post you make should use all your characters senses, along with providing some sort of action or thought. The golden rule with post length is that you need to give the other person enough to respond to. What you give is more or less what you should expect to receive in return.
MULTIPLE THREADS You are allowed to have as many thread on going at once, we follow liquid time here. But don't have like 10 thread at once, for you're bound to forget about them.
Activity Rules
ACTIVE Being active, by our standards, means that you log in at least three times a week, and make a complete roleplay post at least once a week. We understand (especially during the school year) that life offline should be your major priority, and we understand and encourage that philosophy. However, you are considered inactive if you have not logged on in at least three weeks. These rules do not apply if you have posted a note in the Absence board or PMed an Admin.
INACTIVE If you have not logged into Nightingale in at least three weeks, then you are considered inactive, and at risk of losing your characters and possibly your account. An admin will PM you, asking for the reason behind your long absence. If you do not respond in two weeks, your account will be put on suspension. You then have an additional two weeks to reclaim your place on our site before your account is deleted.
